The 5th nominee for the “Worst Employer of 2023” is … the dog dumper

"You can only keep one, your current job or your family pet; which do you choose?" Most would choose the family pet. Which is why it’s so appalling that Clearlink CEO James Clarke used the example of an employee who sold his family dog to enable his return to the working from the office as a sterling example of the type of work ethic expected of all of his employees.

In the same video, Clearlink CEO James Clarke:

  • Lambasted the company's "quiet quitters" who hadn't opened their laptops in the past month while working from home.
  • Celebrated his own "Judeo-Christian work ethic."
  • Expressed doubt that single and working moms could meet his expectations while also taking care of their children.
  • Told working parents that having a full-time job "neither fair to your employer nor fair to those children."

Clarke made all of these comments in the context of announcing the company's sudden reversal of work from home policy that the company had rolled out during the pandemic and had reaffirmed only few months ago.

If you celebrate an employee selling his family dog as an example of the "sacrifices that are being made" to work for your company, you might be the worst employer of 2023.
