“It’s a major award!”

I hate tooting my own horn. It usually comes off as self-serving and tasteless. But, sometimes it’s unavoidable. Today is one of those days.

I’m being honored by the Cleveland-area chapter of the National Association of Social Workers as its Public Citizen of the Year.

Full disclosure. When I received the first email about this I thought it was some kind of scam. Why is a management-side employment lawyer receiving such an honor?

Here’s why—

Jon Hyman's Ohio Employer's Law Blog provides progressive and hard-hitting coverage of issues such as gender discrimination, LGBTQ rights, and employee privacy. His blog provides advocacy that is highly consistent with social work values and couched in ways that impact major decision-makers in corporations, reaching many of the people social workers may not.

The only word I can use to describe this is "humbling." Never could I have imagined when I started this blog almost 13 years ago that I would impact people in this way.

A huge thank you to our National Association of Social Workers chapter, and to whoever nominated me. I am honored to accept this award and very much looking forward to meeting all of you at the award ceremony on March 13.
