WIRTW #558 (the “take me out to the ballgame” edition)

Short story: That time you go to the Indians game and the FS1 national broadcast catches you and your wife in the stands.

Longer story: Among the family sitting behind us was grandfather teaching his grandson how to score the game. The broadcasters starting talking about the lost art of scoring baseball games, and the camera flashes to the kid and his grandpa, with Colleen and me plain as day right in front of them. At the same time my phone vibrated with an email from a co-worker asking me if I was at the Tribe game and if that was me on the national broadcast, the phones of each of the family members behind us caught fire. Thank god I wasn’t picking my nose or doing anything else unseemly.

Epilogue: The Indians convincingly beat the Evil Empire behind home runs from rookie Oscar Mercado, Roberto Pérez, and Kevin Plawecki, and strong starting pitching from Adam Plutko. And, we dined al fresco afterwards at my favorite restaurant. A winning night all around.
